Installing custom lighting, street furniture, flower planters, banners, holiday decorations, and sidewalk treatments.
Hosting local street festivals, seasonal events, walking tours, and joint advertising campaigns to draw shoppers to the Downtown area
Supporting graffiti removal, clean street campaigns, garbage management, and crime-prevention initiatives.
Funding: Financed through a specialized levy or tax added to the commercial and/or industrial property taxes of members within the BIA's boundaries.
Governance: Run by a volunteer Board of Management (elected by the local business and property members) and often operate as a municipal board or public-private partnership under provincial municipal acts (such as in Ontario through the Ontario Business Improvement Area Association or local groups like the Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas).
